You can check the quality of the carpet from its independent grading. The main bodies that relate to New Zealand are the Australian Carpet Classification Scheme (ACCS) and the Woolmark/Woolblend Mark Scheme. http://www.carpetinstitute.com.au and http://www.woolmark.com.
How Do I convert my square meterage into lineal meterage for Carpet.
The best way to do this is to divide your square mtr by 3.28 and then times it by 10%.
for example ; 70 sq mtrs divide by 3.28 = 21.34 x 10% = 23.47...round to next round number 23.50.
70 sq mtrs = 23.5 lineal mtrs of carpet.
Vinyls 2 mtr wide sq mtrs divide by 2
Vinyls 3 mtr wide sq mtrs divide by 3
Which carpet is right for me, Wool v Triexeta v Nylon v polyster, v polyprop??????
When shopping for carpet, a lot of people naturally focus on carpet fiber and often assume that wool is better than triexeta is better than nylon is better than polyester is better than poyprop. However, carpet fiber is only one of the factors that you need to consider. How long are you going to be in the house? Is it long or short term? This is something to consider when choosing your carpet as well as carpet construction factors like density and twist level. All of these elements together determine which carpet is right for you and the how a carpet will perform depends also on the traffic and how well it is looked after while you are in the house. besides what it will cost. When shopping for carpet, it helps to have a general understanding of these factors in order to make the best decision. Wool carpets are constructed from natural fibers, free of toxins and chemicals unless they're added later. Wool is extermely strong and durable and typically keeps its appearance longer than synthetics. however (and this is why synthetic carpets have taken over the carpet world) is as follows; Ultra violet rays can cause fibre degradation in wool carpets that cannot in synthetics. synthetic carpets are cheaper and stain resistant, in fact most now are stain proof only needing a damp cloth to remove food or spillages. Synthetics will not fade like a wool carpet will and (depending on the weight) will endure for generations.
The heavier a carpet is per ounce, generally, the better the quality keeping in mind what it is made from. Corn, wool, nylon, polyester, Olefin and Polypropylene. If in doubt ask the experts at Carpet Time.
Can I lay new carpet on my existing underlay?
In our opinion it is false economy to fit new carpet over old underlay. Carpets need to have as firm a support as possible in order to achieve its maximum performance. An old underlay over ten years old will already have become flattened and less resilient to a greater or lesser extent depending on its use and will not give the carpet adequate support. An old underlay can cause your carpet to feel lumpy underneath in years to come.
Why use carpet underlay?
When installing a new carpet, carpet underlay is a vital component. For instance, sound Insulation.
The installation of underlay reduces sound not only in the room itself but also the transference of sound to the room below.
Heat Insulation By using carpet underlay you are providing an additional layer of insulation, which reduces the heat loss through floorboards and also reduces under floor draughts.
Dust Insulation The underlay acts as a barrier by reducing the flow of air, thereby reducing the dust particles carried by the air.
Comfort Carpet underlay produces an extra softness to the feel of the floor, regardless of the quality and thickness of the carpet.
Be careful of cheap counterfeit seconds that can break down after 6 months of install and form hard knots under your carpet.
Help Ive spilt liquid on my carpet - what do I do?
The key to most household spills is prompt action.
Treatment for tea, coffee, red wine, orange juice and most liquids, act quickly, pour a glass of water over stain immediately, hold the glass from hip high, and then stand on it immediately with a big, thick, towell, repeat and repeat soaking up the water each time, until its dry. If you do this quick enough and enough times , you will not even know you spilt something in the first place.

What about Installation?
Installation fees range from $32 per lineal mtr to $45p/m depending on width of carpet and weight. Extras like moving furniture should be discussed with your installer on the day. Carpet layers are not furniture movers and prefer a blank canvass, so unless you want to pay for an extra service where contracters can move all your furniture (please remove breakables and valuables) uplift and remove your carpet and move carpet back afterwards and vacuum (around $100 approx. a room) then it is expected that you move as much as you can yourself , carpet layers will help with difficult pieces but if it starts to take time out of their day they may charge and they will not help you move the furniture back or clean up afterwards except for their tools. 25mtrs and under can normally be accomplished in 1 day, over that and it may take two days to complete. Your layers are contracter's, please pay direct after install, all works are guaranteed up to two years after install.
